How it works
- Choose a service and answer the health questions online.
- A nurse practitioner reviews your answers and messages you in the TeleTest portal if they need more information.
- Get your requisition or prescription. TeleTest faxes prescriptions to the Manitoba pharmacy that you choose.
- Get your results. Your nurse practitioner reviews your lab results and follows up with you in the portal.
Where to give your samples in Manitoba
- Dynacare: 21 locations in Winnipeg, Brandon, Selkirk, Steinbach, Winkler, Morden, Beausejour and Oakbank. TeleTest faxes your requisition to Dynacare, and the site has it 2 to 3 hours later. To go sooner, print the requisition from your portal and bring it.
- Shared Health: 74 hospital and health centre sites in 67 communities, including Thompson, The Pas, Flin Flon, Portage la Prairie and Churchill. These sites need a provincial health card and do not take payment. Print your requisition and bring it with your health card.
Cadham Provincial Laboratory tests the samples for STIs and other infections. Find a lab in Manitoba and its hours, for example in Winnipeg or Brandon.
Cost
Prices in Manitoba are the same as in Ontario. STI testing costs $49, which includes the consultation, the requisition and follow-up on your results. Most other services cost $49 to $69.
Tests that Manitoba Health covers cost nothing at the lab. Tests that it does not cover show a ($) in TeleTest, and Dynacare charges you for them at the lab. Shared Health sites do not take payment.
What is different in Manitoba
- Health card: Manitoba Health takes the place of OHIP. Your card has a 9-digit Personal Health Identification Number (PHIN). Some tests that OHIP covers have different coverage in Manitoba.
- Clinicians: Our Manitoba clinicians are nurse practitioners registered with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM). Their title is RN(NP).
- Privacy: Manitoba's Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) protects your health information, with oversight from the Manitoba Ombudsman.
- Pharmacy: TeleTest faxes your prescription to a Manitoba pharmacy. Home delivery is available in Ontario only.
- Not available in Manitoba yet: bone density, chest X-ray, dating ultrasound, ECG, echocardiogram and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring; colon cancer screening (FIT); throat, rectal, herpes PCR and BV/yeast swabs; the nail fungus test; DHT, sensitive estradiol, IGF-1, reverse T3, selenium, zinc, free PSA, NMR lipid profile, blood group, hepatitis C RNA, the TB blood test (IGRA), Mycoplasma genitalium, Trichomonas, isocyanate and rabies titres; prenatal bloodwork, pre-operative bloodwork, talent screening and cosmetic dermatology.
