Turnaround for routine panels (CBC, metabolic, lipid) is typically 1-2 business days at most locations. Some high-volume urban locations return results the same day.
Dynacare
One of Canada's leading health solutions companies, with locations across Ontario and Manitoba. Dynacare handles both routine and specialized testing. Routine panel turnaround is typically 1-3 business days, with specialized tests (hormone panels, autoimmune markers) taking longer.
Alpha Laboratories
An independent lab network in Ontario offering walk-in and appointment-based blood work. Alpha Labs locations are often less busy than the major chains, which can mean shorter wait times at the lab itself, though result turnaround is comparable at 2-3 business days for routine panels.
What Affects Turnaround Time?
- Test complexity — A basic CBC or glucose test can be processed in hours. Hormone panels, cultures, and specialized assays may take 3-7 business days.
- Lab volume — High-traffic locations (downtown Toronto, Ottawa) process more samples, which can add time. Smaller suburban locations may be faster.
- Time of day — Samples collected in the morning are more likely to be batched and processed the same day. Afternoon draws may not be processed until the next business day.
- Courier schedules — Some patient service centres send samples to a central processing lab. The courier pickup schedule affects when your sample arrives for processing.
