Most symptoms don’t show until advanced stages. Blood work can reveal problems before they come serious.

Not sure what tests you need?

We offer a comprehensive panel specifically designed for those who utilize steroids.

Not sure how to interpret your results? After your results are processed, our physicians will review them with you and discuss any concerns or risks in a follow up consultation.

What tests are part of the panel?

A physician during the consult will help determine which tests are appropriate for you.

Measures cholesterol levels and other fats in the blood, helping to assess the risk of cardiovascular disease. Steroid use can alter lipid levels, increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
Lipid Profile (LDL, HDL, Triglycerides)
Monitor heart health by detecting irregularities in heart rhythm and structure, which can be affected by steroid use. This early detection allows for timely intervention to prevent serious cardiovascular complications.
Electrocardiogram (ECG)
Measures various blood components, including red and white blood cells and platelets, indicating potential health issues like infections or blood disorders that steroids might exacerbate.
Complete Blood Count (CBC)
Provides a long-term view of blood sugar levels, which steroids can elevate, risking diabetes and other metabolic disorders. By monitoring HbA1c, steroid users can gauge the impact of steroid use on their glucose metabolism, allowing for early intervention to prevent or manage diabetes.
HbA1c
Assess kidney function, which can be compromised by steroid use. Elevated creatinine levels and a decreased eGFR can indicate kidney stress or damage.
Creatinine (eGFR)
Unlike creatinine, which can be influenced by muscle mass (often increased in steroid users), Cystatin-C levels provide an assessment of kidney health that's less affected by muscle mass, making it a valuable tool for detecting early signs of kidney damage or decline in kidney function due to steroid use.
Cystatin-C (eGFR)
Elevated or reduced potassium levels can lead to serious health issues, including heart rhythm disturbances.
Serum Potassium
An indicator of liver function and health. Steroids can strain the liver, leading to elevated bilirubin levels that signify liver damage or dysfunction.
Total Bilirubin
Monitoring ALT levels helps in detecting early signs of liver stress or damage caused by steroid use, enabling prompt actions to mitigate liver-related health risks.
Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT)
Elevated ALP levels can indicate liver damage or disease, bone disorders, or other conditions.
Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP)
Understanding your testosterone levels is key for assessing the impact of steroid use on hormone balance and guiding decisions to mitigate potential side effects such as hormonal imbalances and their related health issues.
Total Testosterone
Specifically measures the amount of testosterone not bound to proteins in the blood, providing insight into the biologically active testosterone available. (Optional - Not covered by OHIP, additional lab fees apply.)
Free Testosterone
Elevated PSA levels can indicate prostate enlargement, inflammation, or cancer. Steroid use can influence hormone levels and potentially affect prostate health. (Optional - Not covered by OHIP, additional lab fees apply.)
Prostate Specific Antigen
Steroid use can alter SHBG levels, affecting the availability of testosterone and other hormones, which has implications for hormone balance, reproductive health, and overall well-being. (Optional - Not covered by OHIP, additional lab fees apply.)
Sex Hormone Binding Globulin
Steroid use can disrupt the balance of estrogen and testosterone, leading to elevated or decreased estradiol levels, which may affect mood, fertility, and overall health. (Optional - Not covered by OHIP, additional lab fees apply.)
Estradiol

“Long-term damage could be irreversible and very costly to manage. By getting regular blood work, we can monitor your health closely and address any concerns promptly.”
